Pick the date you want to be debt-free by, and this calculator works backward to tell you the monthly payment it takes to get there.
Our Debt Payoff Calculator answers "how long will my current payment take?" This one flips the question around: "I want this card gone by a specific date — what do I need to pay each month?" Same underlying math, opposite direction — useful when you have a deadline in mind (a wedding, a move, just wanting it done by year-end) rather than a payment amount already fixed.
Each month, interest accrues on your balance at your card's APR, and your payment is subtracted. The calculator solves for the fixed monthly payment that brings the balance to exactly zero by your chosen month — the same amortization math a loan uses, just run in reverse from a target date instead of a target payment.
Credit cards carry some of the highest interest rates in consumer finance, often 20%+ APR. At that rate, a slow payoff can mean paying nearly as much in interest as the original balance. Pulling the deadline forward by even a few months — and seeing the monthly payment required — often makes clear how much interest a faster payoff actually saves.
